Tom's 2014 dining guide features:

Only one restaurant, Woodberry Kitchen, is in Maryland. (It was the only Maryland restaurant in the guide last year, too.)

16 restaurants from 2016 repeat on there: They include the Inn at Little Washington, Komi, Rasika, Little Serow, Le Diplomate, Jaleo, Mintwood Place, Vidalia, Woodberry Kitchen, Del Campo, Doi Moi, Et Voila!, Oval Room, Oyamel, Red Hen, and Ripple.

11 restaurants that opened (or reopened) within the last 12 months made the list: Fiola Mare, Iron Gate, Rose's Luxury, Boss Shepherd's, Partisan, Rural Society, Soi 38, Water & Wall, DCity Smokehouse and Joe's Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab.

1 four-star restaurant from last year, CityZen, didn't make the list at all this year.

22 restaurants from 2016 did not make this year's list. They include: Ambar, Bangkok Golden, Barmini, Blue Duck Tavern, Bourbon Steak, Casa Luca, CityZen, Daikaya, DGS, Estadio, Etto, Garden District, GBD, Ghibellina, Izakaya Seki, Kapnos, Kogiya, Range, Trummer's on Main, Vermilion, Malgudi, Meaza.

2 restaurants got a star increase: Red Hen and Oval Room were upgraded from two-and-a-half to three stars.

6 restaurants on this year's list serve Asian cuisine.

4 are Italian.

17 are American.
